Zorflex Carbon Cloth Wound Contact Dressing

Zorflex is a 100% activated carbon wound contact dressing for chronic, non-healing wounds. As a sterile, flexible dressing, it conforms easily to the body and may be applied directly to an open wound with no tissue incompatibility. When used as a secondary dressing, Zorflex can control malodor commonly assosciated with fungating carcinomas and gangrene.

Key Features

  • Contains no antiseptic agents
  • Exhibits no donation of chemical agents or fibers to wound bed
  • Exhibits no systemic absorption
  • No special procedures or techniques required for applying directly on the wound
  • Manages malodor through adsorption
  • Can be cut to shape and folded
  • Non-cytotoxic

Uses

  • Venous leg ulcers
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Pressure sores and ulcers
  • Surgical wounds
  • Cavity and trauma wounds
  • Infected graft, donor, and recipient sites
  • Fungating carcinomas
  • Fungal skin infections
  • Partial and full thickness wounds

Precautions

  • Use sterile water or follow local guidelines to cleanse, irrigate, or moisten the wound. The use of oil-based products or topical ointments or saline may reduce the effectiveness of Zorflex. Do not use on dry wounds as this may cause the dressing to adhere to the wound.
  • Do not reuse. If reused, the performance of the product may deteriorate and cross contamination may occur.

How to Use Zorflex Carbon Cloth Wound Contact Dressing

  1. Cleanse the wound with sterile water.
  2. Zorflex will tear easily. To avoid fraying, cut the dressing to shape, covering the periwound if maceration is evident.
  3. Without stretching the dressing, apply Zorflex either way up to the wound surface. The dressing should be applied with the direction of stretch running along the limb to allow movement.
  4. Secure the Zorflex dressing in place using an appropriate secondary dressing or compression therapy. Alternatively, secure with a dressing retention sheet, tape, or bandage. In the case of highly exuding wounds, an absorbent secondary dressing is appropriate. Zorflex allows transfer of the exudate into the secondary dressing which should be replaced as necessary without disturbing the Zorflex or the wound bed.
  5. Should the dressing dry or adhere to the wound, moisten or soak the dressing with sterile water to assist removal and avoid disruption of the healing wound.
  6. Zorflex can be left on the wound for up to 7 days, or as clinically indicated. Any threads or fibers which detach from the dressing can be easily seen and removed.
