Description
Medihoney Paste Honey Dressing
MEDIHONEY Wound Paste contains 100% active Leptospermum honey dressing for use on acute and chronic wounds. This paste supports the removal of necrotic tissue and aids wound healing. MEDIHONEY maintains effectiveness even in the presence of wound fluid, blood, and tissue. It promotes a moisture-balanced environment conducive to wound healing and can be worn before, during, or after negative pressure applications. This non-toxic, natural, and safe dressing maintains a low pH of 3.5-4.5, maintaining more acidic pH levels within the wound environment, which helps keep the wound on track towards healing. Osmotic potential draws fluid through the wound to the surface, helping to liquefy non-viable tissue.
How it Works
Indigenous to New Zealand, active Leptospermum (or Manuka) honey has been shown to have unique wound healing properties, particularly a low pH and high osmolarity. Using this as the active ingredient, MEDIHONEY Paste is a non-toxic dressing that can be used for wound bed preparation and for creating a moist environment during all stages of healing.
Key Features
- Made with 100% Leptospermum honey
- Delivers the consistency ideal for difficult-to-dress wounds, including undermining and tunnel wounds
- Remains effective when exposed to tissue, blood, and exudate to provide a moisture-balanced environment
- Provides the healing properties to address stalling wounds and help them heal
- Has a 3.5-4.5 pH to maintain a more acidic environment
- Can be used in conjunction with negative wound pressure applications
- Uses a non-toxic, safe, and latex-free formula
- Allows for extended wear, if needed
- Osmotic potential draws fluid through the wound to the surface and slough off and liquefy non-viable tissue, helping the area heal

Common Questions About Medihoney Paste Honey Dressing
What does MEDIHONEY do for a wound?
MEDIHONEY is great at pulling moisture from wounds to “dehydrate” bacteria. Basically, it means it decreases bacterial growth within the wound. It also has an anti-inflammatory effort that helps speed the healing time of existing wounds and reduces pain.
How often should you apply MEDIHONEY?
The frequency of dressing changes will depend on how rapidly the honey is diluted by the wound fluid and may require daily changes in the initial stages of wound healing. As exudate levels decrease, fewer dressing changes are required and it can be left for up to 3-7 days.
Warnings and Precautions
- MEDIHONEY paste should not be used by those allergic to honey, on third-degree burns, or to control heavy bleeding.
- Some patients may notice a slight transient stinging. If the sting does not stop or cannot be managed with analgesic, remove paste and cleanse area.
- An increase in exudate may occur due to the high osmolarity. Manage with an absorptive cover dressing.
- Store at 50°F-77°F.
