The Debrisoft Lolly has been developed for the debridement of deep wounds, including those resulting from invasive surgery. This innovative product from L&R is very easy to use and now enables effective debridement, even in hard-to-reach areas.
The fiber composition material of the head of the Debrisoft Lolly consists of 100% knitted monofilament polyester fibers. The inside layer is made from a polyacrylate that contains no colophony or colophony derivatives, giving added stability. Additionally, a blue-X-ray detectable polypropleen thread is sewn into the head and onto a break-resistant polypropylene handle.
Debrisoft is made of monofilament fibers. These reach down into the wound bed or periwound skin and loosen debris and non-viable tissue when used gently in a circular motion. The high density of the monofilament fibers grab hold of the debris and remove in a virtually painless motion.
The 5 types of debridement are knows as the BEAMS: biological, enzymatic, autolytic, mechanical, and sharp. Biological debridement uses maggots to remove necrotic tissue. They liquefy and digest it, killing bacteria while stimulating wound healing. Enzymatic debridement uses collagens ointment once daily to the wound bed. The ointment loosens the collagen that holds the necrotic material together. Autolytic debridement is the slowest type because it uses the body’s own enzymes to break down the tissue. This works best in a moist wound environment, but does not work for larger amounts of tissue or infected wounds. Mechanical debridement uses an external force to separate the necrotic tissue from the wound bed. This method can be painful and it is possible to remove viable tissue in the process. Lastly, there is sharp debridement which is done by a doctor or by a trained clinician. This method uses scalpels, scissors, curettes, or forceps.
Wound debridement is the removal process of dead tissue from wounds. This is a crucial step in the healing process because it creates a clean and healthy wound bed and promotes new issue growth. Dead tissue can trap bacteria which can lead to infections, odor, and pus resulting in delayed wound healing and more serious complications.
Debrisoft is recommended to be used on superficial acute and chronic wounds such as leg ulcers, pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, burns (including third degree after surgical debridement), traumatic and surgical wounds, and in the removal of hyperkeratoic tissues.
